I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me whole right now.
"Um, knt nazla 7ag ilriyoog," I said. They were not buying it.
"Niyah ana knt ga3da mn il 7 oo mashftich," Lulu said. Shit, I forgot the fieldtrip was early today.
"Gooleelina wain kntay wala en3alim Mr. Dave inich 6ala3tay b ni9 illail," she threatened. Was she serious?
"Omniyah gooleelina il9ij, kntay 3nd Zaid?" Sarah asked, using my first name for the first time ever.
I gulped the large lump forming in my throat.
"Bitch," Lulu spat at me as she shook her head. Tears clouded my vision now.
How dare she?
"Intay mn 9ijich? Mn 9ijich Niyah? Ubai kilish mahagait'ha ti6la3 minnich. Nimtay 3inda itha mu ma3a ba3ad?!" Sarah said incredulously, shaking her head. What the hell?
"Na3am?!" I spat out.
Sarah shut up, as if she regretted her words.
"Sim3ouni bas intaw ttkalimon ya3ni?!" I said, I was pissed off.
"Shbtgooleenlina ili bykhalee okay inich tnameen 3nd 9bay oo la b hotel ba3ad?" Lulu yelled.
I wiped at my tears as I buried my face in my hands. I didn't know what to feel right now.
"Ubai la2 had magdar ag3ad hni, bas bagoulich khala9 ili kan bainna insee, ana ma3arfich," Lulu said as she walked out the door of our room.
"Inzain Sarah sm3eeni please!" I said.
Sarah shook her head in disappointment and left me alone. I sat on my bed and yelled in my pillow; I cried so hard that I was out of tears. I took a long, hot shower and got dressed in whatever I found in my closet.
I sent a message to Mr. Dave telling I wasn't feeling well and wanted to stay in the hotel today. I skipped breakfast, and tried to watch TV but my mind was everywhere; with Zaid, with the argument between my friends, if they'd tell other people where I was last night. I'd kill them if they ever accused Zaid of something. It was one thing to accuse their friend but it was another thing to accuse someone they had no relation to.
I huffed as I bit on my lip in contemplation. I forgot my dress in Zaid's suite, and I was sure he wanted more than anything to know what had happened and if I'd gotten caught.
"Kaifhum khal yfakroun ili yfakrouna," I said as I slipped on a pair of shoes.
I got a knock on the door and I nearly stumbled on the floor mn ilkhar3a. Was it Lulu and Sarah back from the trip? Was it Zaid?
I opened the door wala the guy from the reception desk was waiting for me.
"Yes, you forgot to show me your ID," he told me. Wagtik?
I tried hard not to roll my eyes as I took out my passport from the safety deposit box and showed it to him.
"Okay thank you," he told me with a smile, which I did not return. Bida ykharb6 3an security procedures and shit I was not in the mood for until I told him I had a phone call.
I closed the door and looked at my phone for the time. Zaid was supposed to be leaving soon, and I barely had any time.
I almost ran to the elevator, which would not move any quicker so I took the stairs instead and climbed three floors. My knees nearly buckled by the time I'd reached his floor and I was out of breath.
With the remaining energy I'd had I pushed myself to walk to Zaid's suite a few steps away.
I knocked on his door and he quickly opened.
I tried not to cry so he wouldn't feel guilty but he sensed something was wrong and ran a hand through his hair. I couldn't tell him what had happened, what Sarah had accused me of.
"Ayeeblich ildress al7een," he said as I sat on the couch in his living room.
He brought me the dress and didn't look at me.
"Matakhayilain shkithir ana mt2asif 3ala ili 9ar ams," he finally spoke.
"Please, mu '3al6itik. Ana mayebt mfta7i oo nisait inna bng3ad mbacher, ama ilbajji fa kilish mata7asaft," I added with a soft smile.
He smiled back softly too only he didn't mean it. He still felt guilty, and I felt guilty that he did.
"Yallah barid '3urfity, bag3ad ihni ilyom kila, mali nafs a6la3," I said.
"Ana ba6la3 3ugub shway 7ag ilma6ar," he said.
"Oh," I could only say. I got up from my seat and headed for the door.
"Zaid?" I said.
"Na3am?" he replied.
I sighed. "Take care."
He tried to smile. "You too."
I wanted to cry, I wanted to break down right here and now, but for his sake I held on tight to whatever strength I had not to show him that I was weak.
And I was pretty sure he did the same too.
